I wrote three entirely different essays this year, one for each association.
All three have made their respective state finals.
But NSW had a better essay - there were 4 finalists
Then ACT also had a better essay - even with only 2 finalists.
My last hope to make the nationals is in 3 weeks time in Melbourne. But count 'em, there are 10 finalists!
NSW essay finalist (lost)
VIC essay finalist (TBD 14/11/25)
Can't say I didn't try.
I really enjoy the challenge of the essay award as I believe the winners can claim its the 'I know what I'm talking about' award.
NSW was a comparison of what strata legislation all over Australia says, focusing on NSW v VIC, and what they could learn from each other. My format was a boxing match analogy.
ACT was more of a story about living in strata and all the potential technology that can be taken advantage of within strata buildings.
VIC is a about the difficulties faced by strata managers and how important their role is within a city. Focusing on how under appreciated the strata industry is relative to its importance. Living in strata was made popular by Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory and Friends, but you never see any strata notices! Things just get done.
